Module 2: Reflection of Learning-
Establishing My Professional Internet Presence:

This was my first time using Google Sites to establish a website and I am very much enjoying the experience. Google Sites is very easy to use being able to drag and drop pictures or files and embed URL links and videos, allowing you to develop a comprehensive website with ease. I wanted my website to have practical use and to be a tool that I use consistently within my everyday teaching. Every year I develop a new Google Classroom and post resources and assignments for students and generally archive my class and sometimes I will go back through and find videos or online games that I have used previously to post on my current classroom. By making a website with all the necessary resources I wouldn't have to recreate the wheel every year like I do when I make a Google Classroom, instead I could keep adding useful resources.
I thought it would be a wonderful idea to create a website where students could access visuals, videos, and online games to support them with several areas of the curriculum. My hope is that this website can include all curriculum areas within grade 4 and 5 and useful resources to support within each area of the curriculum. Both students and parents can access this website to use as a tool.
This is from my website. These are videos that support learning concepts of place value for students. During my experience with online teaching both parents and students found it helpful to have a variety of resources, both visual exemplars and videos to support teaching/learning concepts. Moreover, students enjoy watching videos after a mini-lessons to review concepts and can pause videos at various steps of a process to review. This is another example from my website showing visuals that will support with students' learning. I am planning on uploading my anchor charts that we co-create in class to have students refer to them at home if they choose, or to potentially create dialogue with their parents about what they are currently learning.
The following picture of my website shows the online games organized by curriculum outcomes which will make it easy for students to access and practice specific areas within a unit. Another thing that I found interesting is that when you attach a Google Doc to your website and have the Google Read and Write Toolbar it automatically pops up with the document so it can be read to you.
Another section I've added to my website is an "About Me" page. I generally do a welcome letter every school year to parents with information about our class and me, however the "All About Me" page allows me to provide additional information about my teaching experience for parents and students to read.
This website will be added to my school website this upcoming school year when it is complete. It will also be added to my Google Classroom. I plan to use Google Classroom and the the website hand in hand. My Google Classroom will be used mainly for posting assignments where the website will be a collection of resources. I plan to add the school calendar, put notices and information for parents and student's homework. This website will be used for many years to come and consistently updated to include relevant materials. I am surprised I didn't consider making a website before, but I didn't know it would be this easy.
Through this experience, I gained expertise at using Google Sites and will eventually have a comprehensive resource I use to teach grades 4 and 5. From this expertise I have gained from creating my own website, I plan to have my students use Google Sites to create a website to potentially demonstrate a portfolio of their learning throughout the year. Moreover, I am grateful that I have established a resource that I can use each year and adjust accordingly without having to start new and fresh.
